What is fashion doing for a better Earth?

What is fashion doing for a better Earth?

In honour of Earth Day 2022, here are some new sustainable initiatives and collections:

Among the novelties will be the release of Karl Lagerfeld's second ecological capsule collection, produced in partnership with model and campaigner Amber Valletta. The label develops an ethical and committed range of prêt-à-porter clothing and elegant accessories manufactured from environmentally friendly materials sourced with little environmental and social impact.

Organic cotton is produced without harmful chemicals, recycled fibres that promote circularity, and Dessertoalternative ®'s to cactus-derived leather. It's also worth noting that the brand signed the Fashion Pact in 2019 to transform the fashion world around three principles: biodiversity, ocean protection, and climate change.

In honour of Earth Day, Dior has launched a new men's beachwear capsule in collaboration with the NGO Parley for the Oceans. The collection comprises logoed shoes, sandals, polo shirts, beach bags, and parkas, all representing Maison's commitment to leading fashion toward a more innovative and sustainable future.

Are you ready to go on a weekend trip with the eco-friendly Gucci trolley from the Gucci Off the Grid collection? In addition to sneakers, there is a full line of recycled nylon travel bags and money orders.

For DSQUARED2, it will launch ONE LIFE ONE PLANET, the first collection designed to contribute to a more responsible fashion business, aiming to minimize environmental effects while maximizing social benefit. The capsule's components are mainly constructed of organic cotton, recycled nylon, and biodegradable elastane.

Giglio.com, on the other hand, Giglio.com presents its first effort on Earth Day 2022, a sustainable project centred on recovery and regeneration. It is a collaboration with Risacca, a laboratory in southern Italy specializing in the reuse and recycling of abandoned fishing nets. Thus, the portal promotes the Proudly re-made in Mediterraneo line, a range of genderless eco-bags manufactured from recycled fishing nets.

Other brands strive towards a greener system by planting trees. For example, GUESS, in conjunction with Treedom, introduces the global forest project Be (leaf) in Change with Guess Eco.

The brand has pledged to plant at least 5,000 trees with a campaign aimed at staff and customers. But this is not the only brand cooperating with Treedom; Lampoon, the second-hand luxury e-commerce site, is also attempting to contribute to Earth Day 2022 by offering a week dedicated to responsible shopping. From the 18th to the 24th of April 2022, all clients who place an order on the platform will receive a tree as a gift.

Last but not least, Vilebrequin, a luxury swimwear brand, works with The Woolmark Company for the SS 22 collection by launching its first merino wool costume, giving the entire range a sartorial edge.

Wool is one of the most significant ecological fibres; it is 100% natural, biodegradable, and entirely renewable. Contrary to popular belief, it produces a water-proof and quick-drying shell due to its flaky structure.
